junior group whose size has doubled in the last year. The Towpath Volunteers were formed in 1978 and have been teaching the excellence of fifing and drumming for 30 years. This self supporting group, which is one of the largest fife and drum corps in the United States, performed this year at the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Savannah GA, the nations second largest St. Patrick's Day Parade. Previous performances include Disney World in Orlando Florida and Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in 2004. The group has played for President and Nancy Reagan and at the White House in Washington DC. The Walworth Fire Department has teamed with the Volunteers to show its support for them. The department feels community service and relations are extremely important with this just one of the many community activities they are involved in. Several of the Towpath Volunteers are from the Walworth area. The greatest part of being a Towpath Volunteer, no cost to join, no membership dues and lessons, uniforms and equipment are provided. The only cost to the members would be a fife or a pair of drum sticks.
